For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
This passage today was the perfect reminder that it is not enough that Christ died and was raised from the dead for our sin. If we choose to live in Christ, we must first die in Christ. We cannot say:
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
We are expected to consider our sins dead. We are now living a new life free from the law of sin and death. We are living a new life of grace in Christ.
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
Praise and glory be to God that sin no longer has dominion over me if I am living in Christ! I pray that each and every one of us would live as if our sin was dead. I pray that we would live in joy and peace as a new creation in Christ Jesus!
